If you can deal with bad service/atmosphere, the calzones are definitely worth it. I would recommend ordering online or via phone and then coming in to pick up.

They are understaffed. We went there, and there was only one group ahead of us. We waited about 30+ mins for our take out order to come. We ordered calzones and waffle fries. Waffle fries were just very sad, they were all soggy and had weird taste to them. Calzones were doughy, but "edible." I see why this place isn't crowded during dinner time on Friday.

The location is the bomb, right across the street from where else and brothers. Just have to dodge a couple cars across the street to the perfect place to get drunk food. Not to mention, they are open until 4am. I find their calzones pretty appetizing and the portion is very pleasing. Right in the middle of the bar scene of West Lafayette, Lovshack is a favorite of the college kids after a long night "studying" Beer. This place is open until the wee-hours of the morning. It serves a extremely wide variety of calzones. From traditional to bbq to mac and cheese etc. Also you get a huge fountain drink for very cheap. You don't have to come here when your drunk though, they have breakfast calzones, lunch/dinner calzones, and dessert calzones. The prices here are reasonable for the food you get, the portion is large and you can eat half now and save the rest for later. The only recommendation for this place would to have the calzones more crunchy. If your looking for a legitimate calzone place, this is it.

If you are looking for a place with good calzones and an aesthetically appealing decor, Lovshack is most definitely not for you. However, if you are looking for a place with good calzones and nauseatingly tacky color combinations, then you may have just found your little folded slice of heaven. Lovshack, located on State Street, serves up a wide array of original calzones, from traditional to vegetarian to cajun-style. Each creation comes to you stuffed, hot, and with your choice of dipping sauce. The portions are large and flavorful, and the prices are cheap. The only downside is that the food, which is supposed to be order-and-go, can sometimes take upwards of 10 minutes to be made. Then again, I guess I wouldn't mind the wait so much if I wasn't trying to avert my eyes from the lime green chairs, hot pink bar, and yellow retro wallpaper. Okay, I'll admit, the decor is somewhat charming. Charming in a baseball-bat-to-your-face kind of way. Overall Lovshack has delicious calzones. And don't forget to try one of the dessert calzones, most specifically the melty, chocolatey "Oh God Yes, Yes" (which may make your gastrointestinal system say "Oh, God No, No" later in the night, but it's well worth it.). So if you're in the West Lafayette area, you should definitely check out Lovshack. Just make sure you come prepared with no knowledge of complementary colors.

The calzones they serve up here are unbeliveably good and reasonably priced. The "dough" is delicious, and comes in a variety of flavors/seasonings. The calzone variety stretches far beyond traditional pizza toppings. I had the Philly Cheesesteak. There truly is something for everyone. I have nothing bad to say about the food itself. 5 stars all the way. On the downside, the menu is limited to mainly calzones, drinks, and a few sides/appetizers. Why only 4 stars? It took for-ev-er to get our food. The place was almost empty on a Saturday night. We ordered 3 calzones TO GO, and waited over 1/2 hour for our order. In the meantime, complete silence from the staff, and even a bit of atttude when we asked what was taking so long. If you're going to eat here, and you should, call ahead and place your order and save yourself a headache. I can't imagine what the stand and wait time would be like if they were ever busy.

Food? C Customer Service? A+ I ordered the Veg Out calzone garlic Italian doughand added Cajun seasoning to it. It was decent but I think the ricotta cheese was left out on accident and the calzone was pretty small. The ingredients weren't very quality, especially for the price. The fried pickles were great though! The menu is promising, the food just needs some work or prices need to be adjusted. There are many places to eat that have similar prices but with much higher quality ingredients. The guy that delivered my food to me was awesome. Super friendly and told me that he added another marinara sauce because my 'zone looked super spicy and he didn't want me to die haha.

Visited Von's on Easter Sunday when nothing else in the area was open. We were a little leery because looking at the place it's a real dive. But we decided to take a chance, because sometimes the dives have the best food. There are MANY options for calzones here. (probably around 30) Chicken, broccoli and parm sounded real good that day, so I ordered the number 69. They are affordable at around $7.00 for a calzone. This is expected since they are in the hear of the University area. The wait time was good at around 7 minutes for our order to be brought out to us. My calzone well stuffed with chicken and broccoli but in my opinion could use a bit more cheese. My partner ordered a ham, sausage, mushroom calzone and his appeared to have a lot more cheese. Flavors were good and the crust was above average based on the 200 calzones that I have had before. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and if I'm back in the area again I would definitely make another visit. They are doing what all college dives should be doing. Provide a delicious, filling meal at a reasonable price. The next time, I may even try one of their dessert calzones. Lot's of options on those as well.

Less than impressed by the quality of food and service at this particular location. While the slapstick innuendo decor might be amusing to the drunk crowd, it left most of us raising an eyebrow for a quick noon lunch. As a visitor, I could not believe how the staff treated us. Not only did they not take credit cards for only our section, but the waiter forgot to mention they ran out of pesto for my calzone...so he didn't start it. Granted, he waited until 5 other people ordered after me. I waited as everyone else in my party was served. Not to mention, the credit card machine miraculously began accepting cards after we ordered. Well then. Although there were some shortcomings with the staff, I believe the restaurant is just severely understaffed. The worker even compensated with an extra sauce. However, the meal was less than impressive. The calzone, though warm and nicely crisp, was thoroughly petrified with oil.

Seriously yummy calzones! I have great memories of visiting the Dough Shack while I was at Purdue. They have a huge menu that include dessert calzones. My favorite is the ham and cheese with a ranch dipping sauce. If you don't care about clogging your arteries before the age of 27, then I'd recommend that you try it ASAP! Last I knew they delivered, but I can't tell you if that is still current. I love their location (between Chauncey Hill and Von's). It makes it an easy stop if you need some drunk food while bar hopping or just going to grab lunch. I think they still close their bathrooms to customers after a certain time at night to discourage drunkies from throwing up or being destructive. All in all: great calzones, great price, great location!

While roadtripping down to the derby we stopped to visit the sights of Purdue. The calzone was tasty but I felt the Supreme had too much ham for my liking. A sober review of the infamous Von's Dough Shack. This place warrants a measly 1 star because of the incredible range of combinations you can make into a calzone but other than that, it deserves 0.5 stars, or just 0. Firstly, the decor. Not a huge issue considering it caters to college students in a college town, in Indiana. I didn't expect anything more or else in terms of decor (i.e. I'm a college kid in college town so I could care less sometimes). But cleanliness lacks. The tables are sticky and sprinkled with crumb and sauce. The drink fountains are sticky. The bathrooms are too much to put into words. I feel as if the restaurant makes an effort to keep it this offensively filthy. But fine, I won't dine in. No big deal, right? Wrong. Don't ever get delivery-see below. Secondly, the food. The calzones are simply OK. Alright. Nothing special.The combinations are immense so you have options! (Vegan and vegetarian friendly, perhaps). I haven't tried the breakfast calzones but the french toast one looks interesting. But, even "fresh" out of the oven, the dough is horribly overcooked (mostly burnt) and soggy- how does that even happen?! And GREASY. VERY, VERY GREASY. Be prepared with thick paper towels and not those napkins they give you that shred instantly upon use. Thick, Brawny, paper towels. The meat is also poor in quality. Veggies are fine. The sauce they serve come in a minuscule cup and are always cold. I'd like my marinara a little bit warmed but eh. Price. Definitely, definitely, definitely, not worth the almost $8 (without additional toppings or sauce and drink). I don't even know how they're allowed to charge that much for such bad food. Delivery. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever get it delivered. Unless you're totally up for waiting 2 and a half hours for a calzone that takes 20 minutes tops to cook. Also, if you're into cold, super soggy and greasy food then deliver, definitely. I gave Von's delivery a chance-3 chances actually. On different days of the weekend (week days and weekend nights). And each time they managed to deliver my food 2 hours late. Service. I didn't expect much considering the fact it's usually college students who have to deal with the chaos that is Purdue's drunken nights. But it seems to me that the employees are perpetually stoned. Or is it just me? Overall, this place is fine if you're plastered, craving and have $8-9 in your pocket. It satisfies that drunk carb craving but sober? Don't bother.

Look....it's locally owned. A plus. It's real food they actually make. Another plus. No canned mushrooms. I've heard enough! They aren't stingy - good is big. The staff needs work but it's college....what do u expect? Kids will be kids. It's not a fancy sit down date night experience, it's just big fat fresh hot calzone hole. Lots of variety (like 40 different types!) and honestly quite affordable given the effort involved vs. the equally priced generic sandwich from jimmy johns made of some low end cold cuts and bread. This is a freshly cooked hot meal. Plus they deal with drunks well. Free refills on giant drinks for only a buck and they have both Coke and Pepsi products which is a plus. Places like this will go out of business if the sheep keep heading to the chain dump restaurants. Support a local place doing their best and skip the McDonald's joints. Go give it a shot. Better in person than delivered...but at least they do deliver late night. I'm a big city type used to delivery at 2am. Nobody else will do this in this smaller town, so that alone wins my heart. P.S. Get the #17, 26 for meat eaters ....or do the 7a if you are a veg head. The loaded potato is very good too. Everyone else (literally everyone) orders the #1 which is great and simple....but it's simple, you know? And....cheese sauce, the answer is YES.

When I lived in West Lafayette, my day yielded to the radiant abyss that served salad in a box, cheesy sticks, and divine calzones. Best. Calzones. Ever. Combinations that will make you want to lick boxes. A party in your mouth! My pick was either the Italiano or the Four Twenty. If you have the cash or the resolve, make the personal challenge of trying the whole menu. Hey, it will make a great story about your college experience! Before it was the Von's Dough Shop, it was Lov Shack. The sauces used to be bigger. Now you get a tiny version of what the dipping sauce used to be. Bummer. But it's still worth it. Every time I make the trip to Von's, I stop at the Shack for some nostalgic deliciousness. The inside is now painted in loud colors with simple cafeteria tables. The Shack slaves are always super cool, and if you can get them to hook you up with an extra sauce, it's totally worth losing a bit of your dignity. The price is right for the amount of food you get. Get a fake Den Pop from them while you're there (Reference: Discount Den, around the corner). I can't quite express how deep my belief is in the Dough Shack. And God said, Let there be dough: and there was calzones.

Used to eat at the LoveShack all the time back when I lived in Hawkins Hall and needed a fix of something unhealthy and this place was still the LoveShack. I guess something happened and the place went down the drain, I remember going and having uncooked dough in front of me. Yuck. Von's bought it and seems like it's a smooth running machine (what does Von's NOT sale? Bob Rohrman should start watching out). Yeah, clearly it's not healthy but neither are a lot of options in the area. You can sort of make it better for yourself by choosing spinach and whatnot. The calzone my husband and I split was all right. The dough was overcooked to the point of being chip-like and the insides were so hot that some of the juice from an unplugged hole burnt my husband's face. Overall, they have a pretty good selection and it wouldn't be bad for a to-go choice. The interior of the "loveshack" is what I suspect an acid trip might look like. All sort of weird colors, trim, and, my favorite (tongue in cheek), the picture of zebras triple humping. The music that was playing was very loud and obvious (with profanity and "adult themes") rap/R&B. While I have nothing against those genres, when you have customers ordering, it seems like the wrong sort of music to have going (especially since you need to wait around 15 minutes for your order). The music is too obnoxious to be simple background noise, so you're kind of stuck if that's what they're playing at that time. Decent food, crummy environment (unless you're into that sort of stuff), and little desire to go back and spend money there. It might be nicer in the summer when people can actually wait outside.

I've had some just ok calzones before but I have NEVER had a calzone that was served to me WITH A BITE TAKEN OUT OF IT!! Seriously. I ordered pick up, took it home, opened it and saw that it's already been eaten. I called and the owner who was working himself that night said sorry and come back, he'll get me another one. I was hungry, I went back. Seemed like someone took a bite out of the calzone, said it wasn't what they ordered and handed it back. The owner then hands it to me. EWWW! I'm pretty sure there's a health code out there that says you can't sell returned food back to customers. Sorry, Von's - I can't go back.

I went here when i visited my boyfriend at Purdue, I got chicken parm calzone and he got the boilermaker. Both realllllly good. we went on a saturday lunch time so not many people were up at 11 so the place was kinda emtpy and they only had two people working so it took a little longer than i expected, but it was worth it! i definitely want to try other calzones from there, they even have dessert calzones! this place is open late to feed all the hungry drunk students on thursday, friday and saturday nights. go try it!!

Von's Dough Shack is a calzone joint located in the heart of Purdue University. When you're drunk out of your mind at 3am, their calzones are like biting into a pocket of greasy, cheesy heaven. Unfortunately, the experience is considerably less satisfying when you're sober. There are 4 major problems: bad decor, bad food, bad prices, and bad service. The decor: the restaurant is literally filled green and orangish colored plastic lawn furniture. It's one of the few restaurants that manages to nauseate customers before they even try the food! The food: The calzones taste 'okay.' I would rank them slightly above a microwaved hot pocket on a good day, and slightly below a day-old slice of reheated pizza on a bad day. As several reviewers have pointed out, the calzones are extremely greasy. You can literally watch it ooze out and drip all over as you struggle to eat it. One thing that Vons has done well is establish variety. there are about 50 different calzone combinations. The price: Calzones cost $8 (with tax.) If Von's was using premium ingredients, organic meats, fresh, locally grown produce, etc etc etc this might be justifiable. Unfortunately, von's uses low-quality bulk-buy junk. I question whether their 'cheese' is even real cheese. For $8 you can get 7 cheeseburgers from McD's, a Large carry-out pizza from Pap J's, a cheeseburger-drink-and-fries combo meal from either of the 2 premium burger joints on the same block as Vons, a 6-pack of beer, or a number of other options. There is simply no way to justify the price of Vons' calzones. The service: Let's be realistic... the staff members are college kids that couldn't care less about their side jobs. I imagine working at Von's and having to serve drunken students and belligerent frat boys until 4am isn't exactly a desirable gig. In fact, I'm sure it's a downright miserable experience. The problem is: the employees treat every customer like an obnoxious drunken frat boy. One yelp reviewer wrote, "I'm not drunk... you can't pull this one over on me." That's exactly how I have felt when I patronized vons! I have had numerous customer service debacles with them. I'll give one example: I ordered von's delivery around 3am (I was 100% sober just for the record.) They forced me to give a credit card number. Over an hour later, my food still hadnt arrived, so I called. By that time they were closed. I never got my food. No knock, no call, no food, nothing. The next day I noticed they had charged my credit card for the food I never received, so I called them. They said they attempted to deliver, but there wasnt a response from me... so they went ahead and charged me anyway. I explained that I gave the correct address and phone number, but nobody ever showed up or called, and the employee still wouldnt reimburse my credit card. I ended up having to call my bank and report the charge as fraudulent. What a pain in the rear.... The entire experience makes me wonder how many drunk student have been vicitmized by vons no-showwing, and then billing them anyway. "dude, I have a $20 charge from vons on my credit card bill, but i dont even remember eating there. i guess i was just too wasted to remember." Realistically, the restaurant needs new management and a boss that wont let the employees show up stoned. If you're drunk and desperate at 3am, Vons might be an option. However, if you are not under such a set of circumstances your taste-buds, arteries, and wallet will thank you for choosing something else... anything else.

Fantastic local divey restaurant! They do calzones. You pick the calzone, then the dough, then the dipping sauce. The location is the bomb, right across the street from where else and brothers. Just have to dodge a couple cars across the street to the perfect place to get drunk food. Not to mention, they are open until 4am. I find their calzones pretty appetizing and the portion is very pleasing. (could potentially last me for two meals) Besides from being the perfect drunk food, I had also ordered their calzones for those all-nighters.

The food was awesome! I had the 4:20 calzone and Happy Trail desert calzone. Wonderful! My hubby had the Philly Cheesesteak calzone with the Oh God Yes Yes desert one. He said they were wonderful.

Right in the middle of the bar scene of West Lafayette, Lovshack is a favorite of the college kids after a long night "studying" Beer. This place is open until the wee-hours of the morning. It serves a extremely wide variety of calzones. From traditional to bbq to mac and cheese etc. Also you get a huge fountain drink for very cheap. You don't have to come here when your drunk though, they have breakfast calzones, lunch/dinner calzones, and dessert calzones. The prices here are reasonable for the food you get, the portion is large and you can eat half now and save the rest for later. The only recommendation for this place would to have the calzones more crunchy. If your looking for a legitimate calzone place, this is it.

If you are looking for a place with good calzones and an aesthetically appealing decor, Lovshack is most definitely not for you. However, if you are looking for a place with good calzones and nauseatingly tacky color combinations, then you may have just found your little folded slice of heaven. Lovshack, located on State Street, serves up a wide array of original calzones, from traditional to vegetarian to cajun-style. Each creation comes to you stuffed, hot, and with your choice of dipping sauce. The portions are large and flavorful, and the prices are cheap. The only downside is that the food, which is supposed to be order-and-go, can sometimes take upwards of 10 minutes to be made. Then again, I guess I wouldn't mind the wait so much if I wasn't trying to avert my eyes from the lime green chairs, hot pink bar, and yellow retro wallpaper. Okay, I'll admit, the decor is somewhat charming. Charming in a baseball-bat-to-your-face kind of way. Overall Lovshack has delicious calzones. And don't forget to try one of the dessert calzones, most specifically the melty, chocolatey "Oh God Yes, Yes" (which may make your gastrointestinal system say "Oh, God No, No" later in the night, but it's well worth it.). So if you're in the West Lafayette area, you should definitely check out Lovshack. Just make sure you come prepared with no knowledge of complementary colors.

The calzones they serve up here are unbeliveably good and reasonably priced. The "dough" is delicious, and comes in a variety of flavors/seasonings. The calzone variety stretches far beyond traditional pizza toppings. I had the Philly Cheesesteak. There truly is something for everyone. I have nothing bad to say about the food itself. 5 stars all the way. On the downside, the menu is limited to mainly calzones, drinks, and a few sides/appetizers. Why only 4 stars? It took for-ev-er to get our food. The place was almost empty on a Saturday night. We ordered 3 calzones TO GO, and waited over 1/2 hour for our order. In the meantime, complete silence from the staff, and even a bit of atttude when we asked what was taking so long. If you're going to eat here, and you should, call ahead and place your order and save yourself a headache. I can't imagine what the stand and wait time would be like if they were ever busy.

Food? C Customer Service? A+ I ordered the Veg Out calzone garlic Italian doughand added Cajun seasoning to it. It was decent but I think the ricotta cheese was left out on accident and the calzone was pretty small. The ingredients weren't very quality, especially for the price. The fried pickles were great though! The menu is promising, the food just needs some work or prices need to be adjusted. There are many places to eat that have similar prices but with much higher quality ingredients. The guy that delivered my food to me was awesome. Super friendly and told me that he added another marinara sauce because my 'zone looked super spicy and he didn't want me to die haha.

I had it delivered and it was my first time trying the their food.The delivery was quick (30 minutes from ordering) I ordered a calzone that was under-baked and very doughy at the bottom. The filling inside was decent though and I like how there are many dipping sauce choices. I also had the macaroni bites which were good but not great. Nothing too special about it.

Visited Von's on Easter Sunday when nothing else in the area was open. We were a little leery because looking at the place it's a real dive. But we decided to take a chance, because sometimes the dives have the best food. There are MANY options for calzones here. (probably around 30) Chicken, broccoli and parm sounded real good that day, so I ordered the number 69. They are affordable at around $7.00 for a calzone. This is expected since they are in the hear of the University area. The wait time was good at around 7 minutes for our order to be brought out to us. My calzone well stuffed with chicken and broccoli but in my opinion could use a bit more cheese. My partner ordered a ham, sausage, mushroom calzone and his appeared to have a lot more cheese. Flavors were good and the crust was above average based on the 200 calzones that I have had before. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and if I'm back in the area again I would definitely make another visit. They are doing what all college dives should be doing. Provide a delicious, filling meal at a reasonable price. The next time, I may even try one of their dessert calzones. Lot's of options on those as well.

Less than impressed by the quality of food and service at this particular location. While the slapstick innuendo decor might be amusing to the drunk crowd, it left most of us raising an eyebrow for a quick noon lunch. As a visitor, I could not believe how the staff treated us. Not only did they not take credit cards for only our section, but the waiter forgot to mention they ran out of pesto for my calzone...so he didn't start it. Granted, he waited until 5 other people ordered after me. I waited as everyone else in my party was served. Not to mention, the credit card machine miraculously began accepting cards after we ordered. Well then. Although there were some shortcomings with the staff, I believe the restaurant is just severely understaffed. The worker even compensated with an extra sauce. However, the meal was less than impressive. The calzone, though warm and nicely crisp, was thoroughly petrified with oil.

This place is very...college. Go into it with that expectation, and just appreciate the delicious calzones. Yes, it's kinda grungy, and right across the street from the bars (which makes for excellent people watching during Breakfast Club, btw), and extremely unhealthy...but, like I said, just appreciate the yummy calzones. I loved this place when I was in college, and I'll even still stop by once in a while on visits to WL.

WTF!!! I live in West Lafayette, right off of 52 between the Admiral Gas station and the Sunset Grill... I am trying to make an online order but it wont let me because they don't deliver out here... which is literally a 10 minute or less drive on 231... makes no sense.

I ordered delivery, paid the delivery fee plus a 20% tip. With that you would think it would take less than an HOUR after I put in my delivery for it to get to me. The food was good but thats kind of ridiculous.

Seriously yummy calzones! I have great memories of visiting the Dough Shack while I was at Purdue. They have a huge menu that include dessert calzones. My favorite is the ham and cheese with a ranch dipping sauce. If you don't care about clogging your arteries before the age of 27, then I'd recommend that you try it ASAP! Last I knew they delivered, but I can't tell you if that is still current. I love their location (between Chauncey Hill and Von's). It makes it an easy stop if you need some drunk food while bar hopping or just going to grab lunch. I think they still close their bathrooms to customers after a certain time at night to discourage drunkies from throwing up or being destructive. All in all: great calzones, great price, great location!

Some of the best calzones on campus! The variety makes it easy to please anyone. Von's also serves different sides that are delicious also (mac and cheese balls are to die for!) The wait time is around 7-9 minutes, so if you are in a hurry keep that in mind.

While roadtripping down to the derby we stopped to visit the sights of Purdue. The calzone was tasty but I felt the Supreme had too much ham for my liking. I never thought I'd say too much meat was a problem. I expected more of a supreme pizza folded over. That said, the names are fantastic for their different creations. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

A sober review of the infamous Von's Dough Shack. This place warrants a measly 1 star because of the incredible range of combinations you can make into a calzone but other than that, it deserves 0.5 stars, or just 0. Firstly, the decor. Not a huge issue considering it caters to college students in a college town, in Indiana. I didn't expect anything more or else in terms of decor (i.e. I'm a college kid in college town so I could care less sometimes). But cleanliness lacks. The tables are sticky and sprinkled with crumb and sauce. The drink fountains are sticky. The bathrooms are too much to put into words. I feel as if the restaurant makes an effort to keep it this offensively filthy. But fine, I won't dine in. No big deal, right? Wrong. Don't ever get delivery-see below. Secondly, the food. The calzones are simply OK. Alright. Nothing special.The combinations are immense so you have options! (Vegan and vegetarian friendly, perhaps). I haven't tried the breakfast calzones but the french toast one looks interesting. But, even "fresh" out of the oven, the dough is horribly overcooked (mostly burnt) and soggy- how does that even happen?! And GREASY. VERY, VERY GREASY. Be prepared with thick paper towels and not those napkins they give you that shred instantly upon use. Thick, Brawny, paper towels. The meat is also poor in quality. Veggies are fine. The sauce they serve come in a minuscule cup and are always cold. I'd like my marinara a little bit warmed but eh. Price. Definitely, definitely, definitely, not worth the almost $8 (without additional toppings or sauce and drink). I don't even know how they're allowed to charge that much for such bad food. Delivery. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever get it delivered. Unless you're totally up for waiting 2 and a half hours for a calzone that takes 20 minutes tops to cook. Also, if you're into cold, super soggy and greasy food then deliver, definitely. I gave Von's delivery a chance-3 chances actually. On different days of the weekend (week days and weekend nights). And each time they managed to deliver my food 2 hours late. Service. I didn't expect much considering the fact it's usually college students who have to deal with the chaos that is Purdue's drunken nights. But it seems to me that the employees are perpetually stoned. Or is it just me? Overall, this place is fine if you're plastered, craving and have $8-9 in your pocket. It satisfies that drunk carb craving but sober? Don't bother.

Look....it's locally owned. A plus. It's real food they actually make. Another plus. No canned mushrooms. I've heard enough! They aren't stingy - good is big. The staff needs work but it's college....what do u expect? Kids will be kids. It's not a fancy sit down date night experience, it's just big fat fresh hot calzone hole. Lots of variety (like 40 different types!) and honestly quite affordable given the effort involved vs. the equally priced generic sandwich from jimmy johns made of some low end cold cuts and bread. This is a freshly cooked hot meal. Plus they deal with drunks well. Free refills on giant drinks for only a buck and they have both Coke and Pepsi products which is a plus. Places like this will go out of business if the sheep keep heading to the chain dump restaurants. Support a local place doing their best and skip the McDonald's joints. Go give it a shot. Better in person than delivered...but at least they do deliver late night. I'm a big city type used to delivery at 2am. Nobody else will do this in this smaller town, so that alone wins my heart. P.S. Get the #17, 26 for meat eaters ....or do the 7a if you are a veg head. The loaded potato is very good too. Everyone else (literally everyone) orders the #1 which is great and simple....but it's simple, you know? And....cheese sauce, the answer is YES.

People come here when they don't know where to get a good calzone, or have money they need to blow because they're hung over from the night before. Calzones are made not so much with love by apathetic college students looking to fill a part time position. Greasy, and oily crust, and inconsistent in the filling. Go here when you're hung over at 1 am, and have money to blow in your pocket. Otherwise there are two much better pizza places down the hill.

When I lived in West Lafayette, my day yielded to the radiant abyss that served salad in a box, cheesy sticks, and divine calzones. Best. Calzones. Ever. Combinations that will make you want to lick boxes. A party in your mouth! My pick was either the Italiano or the Four Twenty. If you have the cash or the resolve, make the personal challenge of trying the whole menu. Hey, it will make a great story about your college experience! Before it was the Von's Dough Shop, it was Lov Shack. The sauces used to be bigger. Now you get a tiny version of what the dipping sauce used to be. Bummer. But it's still worth it. Every time I make the trip to Von's, I stop at the Shack for some nostalgic deliciousness. The inside is now painted in loud colors with simple cafeteria tables. The Shack slaves are always super cool, and if you can get them to hook you up with an extra sauce, it's totally worth losing a bit of your dignity. The price is right for the amount of food you get. Get a fake Den Pop from them while you're there (Reference: Discount Den, around the corner). I can't quite express how deep my belief is in the Dough Shack. And God said, Let there be dough: and there was calzones.

Used to eat at the LoveShack all the time back when I lived in Hawkins Hall and needed a fix of something unhealthy and this place was still the LoveShack. I guess something happened and the place went down the drain, I remember going and having uncooked dough in front of me. Yuck. Von's bought it and seems like it's a smooth running machine (what does Von's NOT sale? Bob Rohrman should start watching out). Yeah, clearly it's not healthy but neither are a lot of options in the area. You can sort of make it better for yourself by choosing spinach and whatnot. I'll admit it's not always my go-to choice but it does satisfy a need for something hot and saucey when it's cold out (aka ill start going more soon... WINTER IS COMING).

Von's Dough Shack has amazing tasting food that always seems to destroy my belly. Great going in bad coming out. The taste is worth it though. Everything is made to order so you know your food hasn't been sitting under a lamp. Last time I went at night and it was a little too loud.

The calzone my husband and I split was all right. The dough was overcooked to the point of being chip-like and the insides were so hot that some of the juice from an unplugged hole burnt my husband's face. Overall, they have a pretty good selection and it wouldn't be bad for a to-go choice. The interior of the "loveshack" is what I suspect an acid trip might look like. All sort of weird colors, trim, and, my favorite (tongue in cheek), the picture of zebras triple humping. The music that was playing was very loud and obvious (with profanity and "adult themes") rap/R&B. While I have nothing against those genres, when you have customers ordering, it seems like the wrong sort of music to have going (especially since you need to wait around 15 minutes for your order). The music is too obnoxious to be simple background noise, so you're kind of stuck if that's what they're playing at that time. Decent food, crummy environment (unless you're into that sort of stuff), and little desire to go back and spend money there. It might be nicer in the summer when people can actually wait outside.

Von's is definitely one of my favorite places to order from at purdue. The food is delicious. I've eaten here many times and never had something I didn't love! The only downside is that because its so popular, it takes forever for when you have it delivered!

This place has gone through several owners so I sure hope it's gotten better since the last time I ate there. I've had some just ok calzones before but I have NEVER had a calzone that was served to me WITH A BITE TAKEN OUT OF IT!! Seriously. I ordered pick up, took it home, opened it and saw that it's already been eaten. I called and the owner who was working himself that night said sorry and come back, he'll get me another one. I was hungry, I went back. Seemed like someone took a bite out of the calzone, said it wasn't what they ordered and handed it back. The owner then hands it to me. EWWW! I'm pretty sure there's a health code out there that says you can't sell returned food back to customers. Sorry, Von's - I can't go back.

This place is called von's shop now, but i guess its still in the same place. kinda funky decorations but thats not important, this place specializes in CALZONES, all kinds of calzones! I went here when i visited my boyfriend at Purdue, I got chicken parm calzone and he got the boilermaker. Both realllllly good. we went on a saturday lunch time so not many people were up at 11 so the place was kinda emtpy and they only had two people working so it took a little longer than i expected, but it was worth it! i definitely want to try other calzones from there, they even have dessert calzones! this place is open late to feed all the hungry drunk students on thursday, friday and saturday nights. go try it!!

My boyfriend loved this calzone spot when he was going to Purdue and we had to try it out when we visited recently. I really enjoyed my Philly Cheese calzone! Dipped that bad boy in cheese and oh yeah hit the spot. They also had sweetened Green Tea- hello! Wish I had my stomach room to try the desserts- they sounded amazing.

Von's Dough Shack is a calzone joint located in the heart of Purdue University. When you're drunk out of your mind at 3am, their calzones are like biting into a pocket of greasy, cheesy heaven. Unfortunately, the experience is considerably less satisfying when you're sober. There are 4 major problems: bad decor, bad food, bad prices, and bad service. The decor: the restaurant is literally filled green and orangish colored plastic lawn furniture. It's one of the few restaurants that manages to nauseate customers before they even try the food! The food: The calzones taste 'okay.' I would rank them slightly above a microwaved hot pocket on a good day, and slightly below a day-old slice of reheated pizza on a bad day. As several reviewers have pointed out, the calzones are extremely greasy. You can literally watch it ooze out and drip all over as you struggle to eat it. One thing that Vons has done well is establish variety. there are about 50 different calzone combinations. The price: Calzones cost $8 (with tax.) If Von's was using premium ingredients, organic meats, fresh, locally grown produce, etc etc etc this might be justifiable. Unfortunately, von's uses low-quality bulk-buy junk. I question whether their 'cheese' is even real cheese. For $8 you can get 7 cheeseburgers from McD's, a Large carry-out pizza from Pap J's, a cheeseburger-drink-and-fries combo meal from either of the 2 premium burger joints on the same block as Vons, a 6-pack of beer, or a number of other options. There is simply no way to justify the price of Vons' calzones. The service: Let's be realistic... the staff members are college kids that couldn't care less about their side jobs. I imagine working at Von's and having to serve drunken students and belligerent frat boys until 4am isn't exactly a desirable gig. In fact, I'm sure it's a downright miserable experience. The problem is: the employees treat every customer like an obnoxious drunken frat boy. One yelp reviewer wrote, "I'm not drunk... you can't pull this one over on me." That's exactly how I have felt when I patronized vons! I have had numerous customer service debacles with them. I'll give one example: I ordered von's delivery around 3am (I was 100% sober just for the record.) They forced me to give a credit card number. Over an hour later, my food still hadnt arrived, so I called. By that time they were closed. I never got my food. No knock, no call, no food, nothing. The next day I noticed they had charged my credit card for the food I never received, so I called them. They said they attempted to deliver, but there wasnt a response from me... so they went ahead and charged me anyway. I explained that I gave the correct address and phone number, but nobody ever showed up or called, and the employee still wouldnt reimburse my credit card. I ended up having to call my bank and report the charge as fraudulent. What a pain in the rear.... The entire experience makes me wonder how many drunk student have been vicitmized by vons no-showwing, and then billing them anyway. "dude, I have a $20 charge from vons on my credit card bill, but i dont even remember eating there. i guess i was just too wasted to remember." Realistically, the restaurant needs new management and a boss that wont let the employees show up stoned. If you're drunk and desperate at 3am, Vons might be an option. However, if you are not under such a set of circumstances your taste-buds, arteries, and wallet will thank you for choosing something else... anything else.
